- transfer videotape to cd-rom- Years ago, the Motion Pictures Expert Group met to agree upon a format for saving videos which was efficient and powerful enough such that entire full-length movies could be digitized and stored on CD-ROM's. The demand for these movie CD-ROM's in the marketplace was minimal - LaserDiscs, which contain uncompressed data and thus required larger discs, managed to prevail. But the encoding format, called MPEG, was an astounding success.
